We'll provide tax documents for Stashers who:
Below are a few of the most common tax forms that Stash issues each year. As always, you’ll want to talk to a tax professional about your specific tax needs and situation.
Consolidated 1099
A Consolidated 1099 combines multiple 1099s (ex. 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT) into one document for your convenience. It’s very common for Stashers to receive a Consolidated 1099— you’ll receive one by default if you have multiple 1099s.
1099-B
The 1099-B summarizes the proceeds of all your sale transactions. These values must be reported to the IRS when you file your taxes. If you did not sell any investments in this tax year, you will not receive this form.
1099-DIV
You will receive this form if your investments paid dividends of $10 or more.
1099-INT
The 1099-INT is provided to Stashers who’ve earned interest of $10 or more that was not previously displayed on the 1099-B. If you received less than $10 of interest, or if the interest was displayed on the 1099-B, it is likely you will not receive this form.
1042S
The 1042S is for non-US citizens who are subject to withholding in the United States. Stashers in this category use this form to report income that is subject to withholding.
1099-R
The 1099-R is for those who own a retirement account and have taken distributions (withdrawals) from it. It will show the amount of any distributions taxable, the amount withheld, and any distribution code that applies.
5498
The 5498 is for those who own a retirement account and have made any contributions, rollovers, or transfers into it in the previous tax year.
Stash does not provide legal or tax advice. Due to the specific nature of each individual’s tax situation, you should consult a tax or legal professional for information on how these forms affect your tax situation.
PR 480.6
Used to report certain income received by Puerto Rico taxpayers and Puerto Rico tax withholding.
Only issued to Puerto Rico residents who earned reportable income and had income subject to Puerto Rico tax withholding
Corrected Tax Form 1099
Stash customers who owned certain investments that are subject to reclassification for the appropriate tax year will receive the Corrected Tax Form 1099 document. Not everyone will receive a Corrected Tax Form 1099, but if you do, you need to replace the existing 1099 in your tax filing. You may want to consult a tax professional if you have any questions.
Looking for a K1 Document?
The K-1 Tax document is for the investors holding securities defined as Master Limited Partnership (MLP). The associated Partnership is required to send the Form K-1 which contains income to be recognized for their own tax returns.
Our responsibility as the brokerage firm, is to provide the required transactions and positions owned for a given tax year to the data processing firms. Investors will then receive their K-1 tax document directly from the MLP partnerships, and report the applicable income for their own tax returns.
