How is my total return percentage calculated?
A return is how much you gain or lose on either a single investment or an entire portfolio. You can calculate it as both a specific dollar amount or a percentage. Here’s how.
Investment positions/holdings:
Dollar: [current value] – [amount invested]
Percentage: ( [current value] / [amount invested] ) – 1
Entire portfolio:
Dollar: [portfolio value] – ( [transfers in] – [transfers out] ) + [net promos, rewards, gifts, and fees]
Percentage: [$ return] / ( [transfers in] + [net promos, rewards, gifts, and fees] )
Performance data is subject to pricing delays, provided for information purposes only, should not be used for tax reporting, and is not an indicator of future performance.
