Changes in the value of foreign currencies can impact the value of international bonds. This fund avoids that risk by investing in investment-grade (lower risk) and high-yield (higher risk) bonds issued only in US dollars—from both the United States and companies and governments around the world. This fund's bonds are short-term loans, which makes this a more conservative bonds fund. Remember, shorter term bonds are generally less risky (fewer ups and downs) than longer term bonds. However, longer term bonds typically provide relatively higher interest rate payments to you. Investing in long-term, medium-term, and short-term bonds can be a good way to diversify your portfolio.
