How do I change my subscription billing frequency?

Stash offers monthly and yearly billing. You can switch your billing frequency in the app or on the web.

Change your billing frequency

  1. Open your subscription settings and go to Change billing frequency.

  2. Choose Yearly or Monthly.

  3. Tap Save changes.

  4. Review the billing details shown and confirm.

What happens if I switch from monthly to yearly?

Your yearly billing usually starts at the beginning of your next billing cycle.

Example: Your monthly billing period runs September 5 through October 4. You switch to yearly billing on September 15. Your monthly plan continues through October 4. On October 5, Stash charges the annual subscription price shown at checkout.

What happens if I switch from yearly to monthly?

When you switch from yearly to monthly billing, Stash calculates a prorated credit for the unused portion of your annual subscription. That credit is applied to future monthly subscription charges until it is used.

Example: Your yearly billing cycle runs September 5 through September 4. You switch to monthly billing on February 25. Stash shows the effective date and credit details before you confirm. Your unused annual value becomes a credit toward upcoming monthly subscription charges.

How do I change my subscription payment method? How do I set a preferred payment method?

Your preferred payment method is the place Stash charges for your subscription. Keeping it current helps avoid missed subscription payments, especially if your card expires or you switch banks.

You can typically link one external bank account and one card to your Stash account. The payment methods available to you will appear in the app or on the web.

Add, replace, or update a linked bank payment method

  1. Open your Payment methods page.

  2. If the bank you want is not listed, tap the linked bank and choose Replace bank link or Link a bank account.

  3. Tap Link with Plaid and follow the prompts to connect your bank.

  4. For more help linking your bank, read this guide.

  5. Return to Payment methods and set your preferred payment method if needed.

Add, replace, or update a card

  1. Open your Payment methods page.

  2. Tap the linked card and choose Replace card or Add a credit or debit card.

  3. Enter the updated card information.

  4. Tap Confirm.

  5. If needed, set the new card as your preferred payment method.

If you use a card for instant transfers, it must be issued by an outside financial institution. The app will show which cards and accounts are eligible for subscription payments.

Set your preferred payment method

  1. Open your Payment methods page.

  2. Review the linked card, linked bank, and any eligible Stash accounts shown.

  3. Select the account or card you want to use.

  4. Tap Make preferred payment method.

How do I view my subscription payment history?

You can view your subscription payment history in the Stash app. Subscription history may not be available on the web.

In the app:

  1. Tap this link to open your Plan details page.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

  3. Tap See Payment History.

  4. Money Coach will open and display your subscription payment history.

How do I cancel my Stash plan?

Before you cancel, review what happens to your account access, billing, and any open investment or banking activity. Stash is built to make investing more approachable, but you’re always in control of whether the subscription still fits your needs.

Subscription and payment methods FAQ

What is a prorated credit?

A prorated credit is value for subscription time you paid for but did not use after a plan or billing change. Think of it like splitting a monthly bill by days. If you paid for 30 days and changed plans halfway through, Stash calculates the unused portion and applies it where eligible.

Can I pay my Stash subscription with a debit card?

Eligible payment methods are shown in your Payment methods page. Depending on your account, you may see a linked card, linked external bank account, or eligible Stash account. If a payment method is not available for subscription billing, it will not appear as an eligible preferred payment method.

Can I have more than one payment method on Stash?

You can generally have one linked external bank account and one linked card. You can choose which eligible account or card is your preferred payment method for subscription charges.

How do I update an expired card on Stash?

Go to Payment methods, select your card, choose Replace card, enter the new card details, and confirm. If you want that card used for subscription payments, make sure it is set as your preferred payment method.

Where can I see my next Stash subscription charge?

Open your subscription settings or Plan details in the app. You’ll be able to see your current plan, billing frequency, and payment history.
