We’ve got the answers to your most commonly asked questions—on taxes and your Stash account.
Why do I have to wait for my tax forms?
Companies need time to report all their yearly money information correctly. This makes sure your tax numbers are exact. To help you avoid fixing your taxes later, we send your 1099 form only after everything is final. Forms will start going out around January 30th and finish by February 15th. Your 1099s will come from [email protected].
Will I have tax forms?
You will most likely receive a tax form if you:
If you sold an investment
Earned more than $10 in dividends and/or interest
Have a retirement account and recently made a contribution and/or distribution for the specified tax year
Why aren’t tax forms ready at the same time as my W2?
W2s and 1099s are different types of tax forms, and they have different deadlines. Your job has to give you your W2 by January 31st. But 1099 forms have until about February 15th to be sent out.
Where is my 5498? Do I need it to file my taxes?
5498 documents are sent by the end of May. No, you don't need a 5498 form to file your taxes. This form is just for your records and for the IRS. It shows things like money you put into your Stash Retire IRA and other activities during 2025. It's not a form you use to directly file your taxes.
I want to file now. What should I do?
It's best to wait until you get your 1099 form. This makes sure you have all the correct numbers so you don't have to refile your taxes later. If you really want to file before you get your 1099, we suggest talking to a tax advisor.

Why am I receiving a 1099 Correction?
Stash customers who owned certain securities that are subject to income reclassification for the appropriate tax year may receive a 1099 Correction form. Not everyone will receive a 1099 Correction, but if you do, you will need to replace the existing 1099 in your tax filing.
The 1099 Correction document that you may receive replaces the form you receive in February. If you prefer filing your taxes early, it may be best to wait until you receive this form or consider filing an extension if you have any concerns.
Please consult a tax professional if you have any questions on how to file a 1099 Correction or for more information on your specific tax situation.
What is Income Reclassification?
