What do I need to start using Stash?

You need to:

Be 18 or older

To open a Stash account, you must be at least 18 years old. This one’s not up to us; it’s the law.

Have U.S. citizenship, a Green Card, or certain visas

Stash is open to U.S. citizens and legal residents of the United States with an accompanying green card or certain valid visas.

We accept the following valid visa types: E1, E2, E3, F1, H1B, L1, 01, or TN1.

We cannot accommodate people with visas not mentioned in the above list. This includes, but is not limited to, DACA recipients.

If you are an existing Stash account holder on one of the following visa types (B1, C1, H2B, H3, or K1), you may continue to use that account. However, you will be unable to open additional accounts due to changes to eligible visa types.

Have identifying documents and a Social Security number

Submitting documents

During the course of signing up for your new Stash account, we may ask you for proof of identity via either your driver’s license or passport.

Why do we need this information? The USA Patriot Act requires us to verify your identity, and it helps us keep all 6+ million Stashers safe, and protects the financial system from identity theft and other forms of fraud.

When uploading documents, ensure that:

• The image is visible, glare-free, and is not blurry

• All four corners of the document are visible

• All necessary documents are uploaded

Stash makes it easy to upload your documents directly from the Stash app or website. The system will guide you on which documents to submit:

1. Log in to your Stash account from the app or web.

2. You’ll see a prompt on your home page asking you to upload your document(s).

3. Tap or click that button and follow the prompts to submit your documents to Stash.

4. Your documents will automatically be sent to us for review.

It can take up to two business days to complete the review process. You’ll receive a confirmation email from us when your documents have been processed.

Entering your SSN

To use Stash, you must have a Social Security number. We need this for two reasons:

1. The Patriot Act requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person opening an account.

2. Stash issues all clients a tax reporting form at the end of the year, and we need your SSN to do this.

Stash takes safeguarding your personal information very seriously-we use it only for identification purposes, and we never perform credit checks.
