Will I have tax documents from Stash?chevron icon

You will have tax documents from Stash if:

  • You received dividend payments greater than $10 from your personal portfolio investments in 2019
  • You received more than $10 in interest on your personal portfolio
  • You made a withdrawal of $10 or more from your Stash retirement account, or
  • You sold an investment in your personal portfolio in 2019

You likely won’t have tax documents from Stash if:

  • You opened your Stash account in 2020
  • You received less than $10 of dividend payments, interest, and/or did not sell any investments before the end of 2019
  • You have a retirement account with Stash and haven’t made any withdrawals

What kinds of tax documents could I receive?chevron icon

Form 1099-R: You’ll only receive this form if you’ve withdrawn $10 or more from your Stash retirement account.

Consolidated Form 1099: If you meet the criteria for multiple 1099s, we’ll issue you a Consolidated 1099 that will combine all relevant forms into one convenient document. Many Stash investors qualify for this consolidated form, which may include:

  • Form 1099-B: This form is issued by Stash if you’ve sold $20 or more of any investment in your personal portfolio in 2019.
  • Form 1099-DIV: This form is sent by Stash if you received more than $10 in dividends in 2019.
  • Form 1099-INT: This form is sent by Stash if you received more than $10 in interest in 2019.

Corrected/Revised Consolidated Form 1099: This form is issued to Stash investors who own companies that either made an error or reclassified an activity within their company. Typically these are dividends that are reclassified or revised, no matter how insignificant the change. The actual companies and timing of documents are unknown to Stash until the event occurs. This form will replace the 1099s that were made available to you in February. If you have already filed your taxes, please consult a tax professional to figure out whether an amended tax filing is required.

Form 5498: This form is only applicable for Stash investors with a retirement account. It will showcase activities such as required minimum distributions (RMD), contributions, rollovers, and more, that took place within your IRA account during the 2019 tax year. This form is not necessary in order to file your taxes and is mostly for your records.
