Why is Stash offering a debit account?

At Stash, we’ve got a different approach to banking. We’re taking a more holistic approach to money management. We want you to think bigger than just putting away money or having an emergency fund. We want you to afford a better life.

Now you can have the tools to help you save for all the things you want, all in one place. You can save for that much-needed vacation, pay your bills on time, create an emergency fund, all the while still investing for your future.

How can I get an invitation to apply for a Stash debit account?

Stash will begin to send invitations to get on the waitlist for a Stash debit account, provided by Green Dot Bank, Member FDIC, during the week of August 20. All Stash users should receive an invitation by early September.

If I haven’t gotten an invite, can I ask a friend to share the link?

Yes!

Do I need an invitation to apply if I’m already a Stash user?

Invitations are only available to Stash users. All Stash users will be able to access the wait list by early September. When it’s available to you, you’ll see it on your home screen in your Stash app.

What’s the Early Reservation ETF?

The Early Reservation is a new ETF on Stash used to reserve your spot in line to apply for a Stash debit account at launch. Similar to a money market fund, the investment is comprised of treasury bills issued by the US government. Early Reservation works just like any other investment in your Stash Invest account until you are able to open your Stash debit account.

To purchase the Early Reservation you must first have received either an in-app push notification, invitation email, or new home screen tile inviting you to set aside $5 or more to purchase stock in the Early Reservation ETF.

Once you’re able to open your Stash debit account1, your balance will appear in your Stash debit account balance. Investment products and services are offered by Stash Investments LLC, not Green Dot Bank and are Not FDIC Insured, Not Bank Guaranteed, and May Lose Value.

What are the benefits of Stash debit account?

The Stash debit card and account is designed especially for investors. There are zero set-up, monthly, or overdraft fees. You’ll have access to over 19,000 fee-free ATMs all over the U.S., as well as convenient cash deposit options at participating CVS Phamacy®, Rite Aid and Walgreens retail stores.2

Plus, if you enroll your card in the Stash cash-back program3, you can use that money to invest. Plus, you’ll get savings tools to help you make smart spending decisions and save more.

What network is the Stash debit card associated with?

The Stash debit card is a Visa debit card, accepted anywhere Visa is accepted in the U.S.

Is the Stash debit card, a pre-paid card?

No, it is not a pre-paid card. It can be used the same as any other debit card where Visa is accepted.

Why did Stash partner with Green Dot?

We saw some of you had questions on our selection of Green Dot as a partner, so we thought we’d clarify.

There are a number of potential bank partners out there for companies like Stash, so we canvassed the universe and selected Green Dot because of their tech, people, and values. If you look at Green Dot’s client list (Apple, Uber, Intuit, etc.), it’s clear others share the same view of Green Dot. They are the partner for tech-forward companies.

Green Dot has several business lines, including a pre-paid business line. Our debit account is not part of Green Dot’s prepaid business. It’s a real bank account, and our debit card can be used anywhere Visa is accepted (including for car rentals and hotels, where pre-paid cards typically aren’t accepted, but holding periods always apply when you use a debit card at these merchants).

Hope this clears things up. We’re looking forward to launching this fall. Happy Stashing!

What are the fees?

See the Deposit Account Agreement for fees, terms, and conditions here.

What ATMs can I use with my Stash debit account?

You’ll have access to over 19,000 ATMS across the U.S. Check the locator in the app to find the nearest fee-free ATM near you. You may be charged a fee to use an ATM not in the Allpoint  network2.

You can reserve your spot for the debit account today.

If you aren’t a Stash investor already, you will need to download the app and register for a Stash Invest account. Then you will need to sign up on the waitlist to apply for a Stash Debit Account. Account Opening for Banking is subject to Green Dot Bank’s approval.
