About APE

Due to the speculative nature of APE, you can only hold or sell your shares on Stash. If you'd like to invest in AMC Entertainment Holdings for the long term, we recommend buying their common stock (ticker: AMC) instead. At Stash, we believe AMC common stock is inherently more valuable than APE.On August 22, 2022, AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC) issued its shareholders a special one-time stock dividend of one share AMC Preferred Equity (APE) for each share of AMC common stock. The special stock dividend was somewhat similar to a 2-for-1 stock split and did not change the company's value. In a traditional stock split, common stock shareholders would own two shares of common stock after the split. In the case of AMC, shareholders also own two shares, but one is AMC common stock and the other is APE. According to AMC CEO Adam Aron, APE gives AMC a currency that can be used to strengthen the company's balance sheet by paying down debt or raising cash by issuing more shares of APE. In the future, AMC also plans to let shareholders vote to allow APE shareholders to convert their APE shares to AMC common stock.
